Public Service Announcement: The Raleigh Holiday Half Marathon runs the Crabtree Creek and Neuse River Greenway on Saturday, December 7

November 20, 2024 – On Saturday, December 7, the Raleigh Holiday Half Marathon returns to the Capital Area Greenway System on the Crabtree Creek Greenway, with an additional section on the Neuse River Greenway.

Due to greenway construction, the race will start on the corner of Somerset Road and Crabtree Boulevard, near Lockwood Park. Runners will gather from 7:00-8:00am with the race beginning at 8:00am. The race will go down Crabtree Boulevard for about 400 feet before entering the greenway at Lockwood Park. The remainder of the race and finish will be on the greenway, which will follow the Crabtree Creek Trail to Anderson Point Park and onto the Neuse River Greenway, where the turnaround will be near the Poole Road trailhead, located at 1721 Riverview Rd, Raleigh, NC 27610.

Associated Road Closures:

  • Crabtree Blvd from Somerset Rd to Culpepper Ln: 7:00am – 8:30am
  • Somerset Rd from Plymouth Ct to Crabtree Blvd: 7:00am -8:30am
  • Remington Rd and Culpepper Rd from Somerset to Crabtree: 7:00am-8:30am

The 6th year race has a maximum capacity of 750 runners competing. The USATF sanctioned event features a certified course that was measured by Clockwork Race Timing, who will also provide timing. The event will serve as the USATF North Carolina State Championship. The Top 3 Male and Female finishers will receive prize money. RRCA will also crown Grand Masters (50+) and Senior Grand Masters (60+) Champions.

All finishers will receive medals, and the first 75 Men and the first 75 Women will receive 2024 Raleigh Holiday Half Marathon Coffee Mugs. A $250 bonus will be available for event records. Current event records are held by Fiona O’Keeffe (1:09:34) and Isai Rodriguez (1:02:20).

There will be multiple aid stations that will offer water and Tailwind. Early packet pickup will be held Thursday, December 5th from 5-7pm at Runologie / Pine State Coffee and Friday, December 6th from 4:30-6:30pm at Mordecai Beverage Company. Race Day (Saturday, December 7th) packet pickup will be available from 6:30-7:30am at Raleigh Founded at Gateway Plaza.

Ample race day parking will be available, courtesy of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, located adjacent to Gateway Plaza at 1924 Capital Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27604. Triangle Corporate Coach will provide a shuttle to and from the start/finish line, starting at 7:00am and running through 12:00pm.

Additional parking will be provided at Powell Elementary School, located at 1130 Marlborough Rd, Raleigh, NC 27610.

The Raleigh Half Marathon is directed and promoted by Sir Walter Running, a Raleigh-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to bring the Greater Raleigh running community together through innovation, activation, and inclusivity.
