Public Service Announcement:The Raleigh Half Marathon takes the Crabtree Creek Greenway on Saturday, February 22
January 27, 2020 – On Saturday, February 22nd, the Raleigh Half Marathon returns to the Capital Area Greenway System with a new course, this year moving to the Crabtree Creek Greenway. The race will start at 7:30am by the recently redeveloped Gateway Plaza, and will run to Anderson Point Park (and back).
Crabtree Boulevard (and the stoplight at the Raleigh Boulevard intersection) will be blocked from approximately 7:20am to 7:40am, as runners enter the greenway from the road. The race cutoff will be 11:00am and miles 0-6 of the Crabtree Creek Trail will be heavily trafficked at the time. No roads will be blocked after 7:40am, as the race will finish at the end of the greenway, close to the Raleigh Boulevard / Crabtree Boulevard intersection.
The 2nd year race is sold out, with 750 runners competing. The Wait List is open.
The USATF sanctioned event features a certified course that was measured by Clockwork Race Timing, who will also provide timing. The event will serve as the USATF and RRCA North Carolina State Championship. The Top 3 Male and Female finishers, as well as the Top Masters Runners, will receive prize money. RRCA will also crown Grand Masters (50+) and Senior Grand Masters (60+) Champions.
All finishers will receive medals, and the first 75 Men and the first 75 Women will receive receive a handcrafted, Raleigh Half Marathon change dish, from Porch Dog Pots. A $250 bonus will be available for event records. Current event records are held by 2019 Winners, James Wilson (1:06:38) and Sarah Rapp (1:18:04). 2019 competitors (James) Wilson, as well as Matt Welsh, Mason Frank, Peyton Thomas, Simone Domingue, and Adriana Piekarewicz will be competing in the 2020 Olympic Trials Marathon on Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Atlanta, GA.
There will be multiple aid stations that will offer water and Gatorade Endurance Formula, hosted by Fleet Feet Raleigh, Runologie, Raleigh Distance Project, Oak City Recovery Run Club, and the Panther Creek Track team. The Post Race party will be held at Mordecai Beverage Company. Pursuit Ales will have pint glasses to give out to all competitors and volunteers. Early packet pickup will be held at Runologie / Pine State Coffee on Thursday, February 20th from 5-7pm and at Mordecai Beverage Company on Friday, February 21st from 4:30-6:30pm.
Ample race day parking will be available, courtesy of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, located adjacent to Gateway Plaza at 1924 Capital Blvd, Raleigh, NC 27604.
